How Our Growing Technology Works

Stronger roots. Healthier plants. A smaller footprint.

At Airis Garden, we grow plants differently. Instead of growing in soil, our plants develop with their roots freely suspended in air, receiving precisely controlled amounts of water and nutrients.

Our innovative growing technology, originating from research at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), allows us to grow healthy, strong plants indoors, all year round, while using fewer resources.

Roots in Air, Not Soil

Traditional plant cultivation relies on soil or other growing media to support roots and supply water and nutrients. Our technology takes a different approach.

Plants are held in place above an enclosed growing chamber, where their roots hang freely in the air. A fine spray delivers water and nutrients directly to the roots at carefully controlled intervals.

This creates an ideal environment for root development, encouraging large, healthy root systems without the need for soil.

How It Works

1. Corms are placed in our growing system

Newly harvested corms are carefully positioned in specially designed growing units, with their leaves above the growing surface and their roots suspended in the chamber below.

2. Roots receive water and nutrients

An automated system sprays the exposed roots with a nutrient-rich solution. The timing and frequency are controlled to provide the plants with what they need while minimising water consumption.

3. Light and growing conditions are controlled

Energy-efficient LED lighting provides the wavelengths needed for healthy growth. Combined with a controlled indoor environment, this allows us to grow plants consistently throughout the year, regardless of outdoor weather or season.

4. Plants are harvested and prepared for delivery

Once the plants have reached the desired stage, they are carefully harvested. Depending on the product, they can be transferred to pots for retail sale or used in further cultivation.

Why We Grow This Way

Stronger root systems

With their roots growing freely in air, our plants develop extensive root systems that support healthy growth and help them establish themselves after transplanting.

Less water

By delivering water and nutrients directly to the roots, we can significantly reduce water consumption compared with conventional growing methods.

No pesticides in our production

Our protected, soil-free growing environment helps prevent pest infestations, allowing us to grow without pesticides.

Local production, year-round

Our indoor growing technology makes it possible to produce plants in Sweden throughout the year, reducing dependence on distant growers and long international supply chains.

A more sustainable supply chain

Local production, efficient use of resources and compact plant formats create opportunities to reduce transportation, emissions and environmental impact.

From Our Growing System to Your Business

Our technology is the foundation of Airis Garden's Alocasia production.

We supply finished potted Alocasia plants, ready for wholesalers and retailers, as well as Alocasia corms for further cultivation and resale.

By combining innovative growing technology with local production, we aim to make premium Alocasia more accessible while building a cleaner, more responsible plant supply chain.

Better growing starts at the roots.
